I see it all the time… someone decides they are ready to get healthy and strong… they diet, they exercise, they lose weight, they have more energy, they feel great, then… they fall off the proverbial wagon and go right back to their starting point… or worse… even further back.

They were doing all the right things… so why did they fail?

They skipped the most important pillar of their health… ACCOUNTABILITY!

Statistics have shown that if you set a goal for yourself… put it in writing, and maybe even tell someone you are going to do it… you are about 65% likely to achieve that goal.  But, if you take it a step further and ask that person to hold you accountable, you are about 95% likely to achieve the goal. That’s a big difference!

Think about it like this… you decide you want to get healthy and start working out. You will go to the gym at 5:00 am. So, you get the gym membership, buy the clothes, set the alarm… do all the things. Before going to bed, you make sure you are completely ready for your morning sweat session… your clothes are ready, your shoes are ready, your water bottle is ready, your gym bag is packed! You get to bed at a reasonable hour so you get enough sleep.  There will absolutely be NO excuse in the morning for you NOT to go! Right? Then, the alarm goes off at 4:30 am and YOU’RE STILL TIRED. It’s cold outside and you don’t feel like getting out of your warm cozy bed to hit the gym… what do you do? You turn off the alarm and go back to sleep! No excuses huh?

Now, let’s look at the same scenario, but this time you agree to meet your best friend at the gym at 5:00 am. Your alarm goes off and you’re still tired. It’s cold outside and you don’t feel like getting out of your warm cozy bed… but then you remember… your BFF is going to be waiting on you! So, what do you do? You turn off your alarm, drag yourself out of bed and hit the gym… because someone else is counting on you and you would never dream of letting them down!

When it comes to getting healthy, accountability is the most important of the 3 basic pillars of health. Having a person who will hold you accountable will help keep you on track… no matter the goal. You will feel better, you will look better, and you will live better just by taking this one simple step and adding accountability to your plan!
